Martin Ford’s TED Talk on “How Well Ean Money in a Future Without Jobs” is clear, compelling and honest in portraying the challenges our society faces with the inevitable job displacement from robotics and artificial intelligence. He does not take the easy out of most commentators by suggesting that human creativity, combined with education will save the day as in technology threats of the past. Those almost embarrassing arguments sidestep or ignore the obvious difference this time compared to historical references: machines are rapidly acquiring cognitive skills, not just mechanical skills. Additionally, the expected rate of improvement of the intelligence of AI will easily outpace our ability to educate people to be competitive, absent radical augmentation of human intelligence. Even that speculative solution will probably fall short
